Clubs & Organizations

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION

This is the governing student agency on campus. All activity paying students are eligible to vote in its elections. All students have speaking privileges at these meetings.

SGA entertains requests for funding of Athletics, Student Activities, and all clubs. It decides how the funds from the activity fees will be spent. This budget is submitted to the FSA Board of Directors for disbursement.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE

SAC plans many social and cultural programs on campus. Programs include Parents & Alumni Weekend, Welcome Week , Pre - Exam Jam, various speakers, comedians, hypnotist s, and a diverse selection of movies . Students are encouraged to participate on this committee to assist in choosing performers for the following semesters.

AMERICAN RED CROSS CLUB

The purpose of this club shall be to provide American Red Cross services to the local community and students on the campus of Herkimer County Community College, with members delivering these services acting in accordance with the mission, principles and code of conduct of the American Red Cross.

ANIME CLUB

The club is dedicated to increasing awareness and popularity of Japanese Animation, "Anime", on campus by providing regularly scheduled, free, entertaining and enlightening experiences through public showings of anime.

The Art Club activities include museum and gallery field trips, group related projects (murals, window painting, etc.). All students with an interest in fine arts (majors and non-majors) are welcome.

ARTS & LETTERS SOCIETY

Students will be involved with creative and journalistic writing through classes and personal ambitions/aspirations.  Students in this group will publish the magazine "The Hill" and contribute to other on and off campus publications.

The purpose of this club is to build a stronger bond between minority students and to educate others about their background.

CAMPUS CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP & FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES

Students gather together to share their living faith with others, as well as to support each other in living their Christian lives. There will be bible studies, social activities and opportunities for prayer and praise. Also, there is a special part of the Fellowship specifically focusing on the Christian Wall of HCCC athletes.

The purpose of this club is to introduce students of HCCC to the basic concepts of chess, and get them involved with informal games, timed games or internal competitions.

COMPUTER NETWORKING CLUB

The purpose of this club is to:  Gain more, effective knowledge of the Computer Networking field.  To serve those who are in need of assistance in the area of Computers and Computer Networking.  To further our knowledge of the Computer Networking field by taking field trips to local businesses and seminars.  To raise funds through the use of Computer Networks.

The primary objective of this club is to examine and analyze current issues in the Criminal Justice field. Speakers and organizations will present various interpretations of these issues, offering students an opportunity to become more familiar with the Criminal Justice System.

The goals of this club is to provide a safe and inclusive outlet for the student body. Our mission is to work toward an accepting environment for all people of any sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, nationality, color, creed, religious belief or age. EMS Club is designed for students to provide a working presence of medical professionals and presence at special events at HCCC.

FALL BASEBALL CLUB

This club is open to any student interested in baseball.  The group will have informal practice sessions in the fall twice a week and Saturday and Sunday weather permitting.  The club competes against other colleges through October.

FALL LACROSSE CLUB

This club is for any student that wishes to play lacrosse.  Regardless of your lacrosse background, this club is open to anyone at HCCC.  When the club winds down in October, we end our fall season with two tournaments - one held on our campus in Wehrum Stadium and then we attend the Cortland tournament.

FASHION CLUB

This club will help develop students knowledge of fashion apparel, fashion buying, fashion merchandising,and careers in the fashion industry. Students will be provided an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their knowledge of fashion through hands on activities.

GENERALS THEATRICAL GROUP

The dominating purpose of this organization is to bring quality theatrical productions to the HCCC campus and the surrounding community. In doing these productions, the students will be given a "hands-on" opportunity to learn about the theatre industry through serving in a variety of roles, but not limited to, acting, directing, technical, stage management, and house and box office management. The organization will attempt to produce two main productions per year that can include live stage, video, film, and audio as performance mediums.

GOLF CLUB

The purpose of this organization is to get students more involved in the golf game. We are located in one of the most golf rich environments in the United States. The club is able to experience golf courses throughout the area while at the same time giving back to the community.

The purpose of this organization is to improve and increase awareness of and action related to micro- and macro-environmental issues both locally and globally. This club is designed to serve student interest in all aspects of the legal field. The Association sponsors a number of speakers during the academic year on topics of interest to the club members and to the college community at large. Occasional field trips may be taken.

MUSIC INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION

This association is designed to link musicians within the college. Give practical hands on opportunities to explore life in the music industry. Meet with local musicians, engineers, producers & promoters to learn aspects of life in the music industry from those already in it.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE CLUB

The purpose of the club is for participation in extracurricular activities of an outdoor adventure nature including but not limited to: 

  • participating in outdoor activities such as backpacking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, road biking, snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing, white-water rafting, sky diving, etc.
  • participating in college and community work projects such as working in the HCCC Nature Center and/or Natural History Museum.

PEER TUTOR CLUB

The Peer Tutor Club is open to all students interested in peer tutoring and other aspects of service. This club provides students with the opportunity to learn various strategies in tutoring and to learn of current and future opportunities available to tutors. Students will have the opportunity to meet with and learn strategies from other peer tutors in the area.

PERFORMING ARTS CLUB

The club is open to both male and female students who enjoy all styles of dance. They meet twice a week to develop an energetic, creative show performed at the end of each semester. No experience necessary. Dances include everything from hip-hop, ballet, to jazz. Other talents are welcome such as acting, singing, etc. Join us if you like to have a lot of fun.

PBL is a National Society for students with an interest in the business world. This organization promotes a sense of civic and personal responsibility as it applies to our capitalistic system. Members have the opportunity to travel to state and national leadership conferences and participate in academic competitive events.

PHI THETA KAPPA

This is an International Honor Society . The purpose of this society is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two year college students. The organization provides an opportunity for the development of leadership and service through its various service projects. Members may have the opportunity to participate in regional, state and international conferences. Membership is limited to those students who achieve a 3.5 cumulative average, and accumulate 12 credit hours.

Activities include the processing of film, printing, and enlarging of photographs. The goals of the club are to afford students the opportunity to improve their skills and to give them access to darkroom facilities.

RADIO-TV CLUB

This award winning club fosters interest in electronic media. While open to all students, the club helps to augment the education of the college's Radio-TV Broadcasting students. Field trips, speeches, workshops, philanthropic activities, and production external to the credit-bearing courses are a part of the annual activities. HCCC's Radio-TV club is a chapter of the National Broadcasting Society/ Alpha Epsilon Rho.

SPORTS MEDICINE CLUB

The Sportsmedicine club will provide students opportunities to explore professional involvement within the field of Sportsmedicine.  The club also provides HCCC students and student athletes with the opportunity to learn more about topics related to Sportsmedicine.

SPRING MEN'S SOCCER CLUB

Open to students who are interested in playing soccer in the spring.  The spring team will participate in indoor tournaments.  When the weather breaks, the club will then play outdoor games against Division I, II and III colleges.

STUDENT ISSUES CLUB

Student Issues Club is an organization designed to prevent destructive decisions (ie. The use of drugs, violence, suicide, etc.) and to provide intervention and prevention methods for students so they may have a better understanding of the issues while realizing the consequences of their actions.

Students will also examine and analyze contemporary social problems and issues. Speakers and organizations will be invited to the college to present various interpretations of these issues.

TRAVEL CLUB

This club sponsors guest speakers and workshops to inform students of current trends in the travel industry. Students engage in fund raising activities for a "fun" educational trip relative to the field of travel.

UNDERGROUND METAL CLUB

This club is for the promotion and the continued well being of the less promoted, less known bands, musicians, and fans of the genre known as "Metal".  The members of this "Sub-Culture" have an opportunity to come together and join voices in an attempt to educate the public about the vast segments of musical culture of which so little is known, and to overthrow the widely believed misconceptions that surround.

The Women's Club is open to both men and women, both students and faculty, who wish to serve the purpose of raising awareness dealing with women's issues. Our group will work towards empowering the women and men of our campus and community by allowing them to have a voice. Our main goal is to make a difference at Herkimer County Community College not only for our current students, but also for the future students and generations.
