CINAHL (CUMULATIVE INDEX TO NURSING AND ALLIED HEALTH LITERATURE) (1983 – 2003). Indexes over 1600 periodicals covering nursing, athletic training, emergency services, health information management, and rehabilitation in addition to other health-related fields.

GENERAL SCIENCE INDEX (1978 – present). Lists articles dealing with all of the sciences.

READER’S GUIDE TO PERIODICAL LITERATURE (1890 – present). Indexes over 200 periodicals of general interest; includes a subject and author index.

EBSCO MASTERFILE SELECT Access to over 760 periodicals covering many subjects.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS RESOURCE CENTER AND ALTERNATIVE HEALTH MODULE Magazines, journals, newspapers, definitions, directories, and information on all spheres of health and wellness, as well as alternative or complementary treatments, many with links to health-related sites.

MEDLINE Index covering all areas of medicine.

SCIENCE DIRECT Access to abstracts and/or full-text of many health-related journals.

WILSONSELECTPLUS Full-text articles in science, humanities, education and business.

 

PERIODICALS

(Bound, current and microfilm available – Library 1st floor. Consult a blue spiral-bound HCCC Library Periodical Holdings List for the location of the following periodicals.  Copies of this list are located throughout the library.)

JOURNAL OF ATHLETIC TRAINING (2003 – present, current issues on reserve). The official publication of the National Athletic Trainers Association; articles are original research, case reports, clinical techniques, and current literature reviews.

THE JOURNAL OF STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING RESEARCH (2005 – present). JSCR publishes research that addresses a wide variety of questions concerning conditioning, sport and exercise demands.

PHYSICIAN AND SPORTSMEDICINE (1986 – present). Presents the medical aspects of all sports and sports-related topics from diet and nutrition, to diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries.

ACSM's Guidelines For Exercise Testing And Prescription. Ref.RM725.A48 2006. Manual offers summaries of recommended procedures for exercise testing and prescription in patients.

Colour Atlas of Injury in Sport. RD97.W54. Presents injuries that occur during sports events.

Complete Book of Book of Athletic Taping Techniques: the Defensive Offensive Weapon in the Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries.  RD131.C412. Illustrates bandages and bandaging techniques.

The Complete Guide to Joseph H. Pilates' Techniques of Physical Conditioning: With Special Help for Back Pain and Sports Training. RA781.M4 2004. This book has step-by-step photos of exercises, back-strengthening routines and exercises for computer users.

Current Therapy in Sports Medicine - 2.  RC1210.C84. Current Therapy Series. Covers exercise, physiology and applied sports medicine with an emphasis on training and injury prevention.

 

Epidemiology of Sports Injuries. RA645 .S68 E65 1996. Provides a comprehensive compilation and critical analysis of injury data over a wide range of sports.

Muscle and Tendon Injuries in Athletes: Diagnosis, Treatment, Muscle Training, Rehabilitation.  RD688.K7313. Discusses the fundamentals and principles of training methods.

Sports Injuries Sourcebook: Basic Consumer Health Information About Common Sports Injuries.  Ref RD97.S736 1999. Discusses preventing injury in specific sports; tips for training and rehabilitation from injury.

The Sports Medicine Bible. Ref.RC1210 .M49 1995. This guide to injury prevention and treatment in recreational sports focuses on overuse injuries, and emphasizes strength and flexibility as the keys to injury prevention.

Treatment of Injuries to Athletes.  RD97.O36. This text covers prevention of injuries; treatment of specific injuries and injuries in specific areas of the body.

National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Provides current events, education, membership details and other resources.

National Youth Sports Safety Foundation Inc. A non-profit educational organization dedicated to reducing the number and severity of injuries youth sustain in sports and fitness activities.

Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS). Serves as an educational resource for the Major League and Minor League Baseball athletic trainers.

World Federation of Athletic Training and Therapy. The World Federation is a coalition of national organizations of health care professionals in the fields of sport, exercise, injury/illness prevention and treatment.
