This course is designed as an analysis of major con-temporary social problems, including illness and health care, alcohol and other drugs, crime and violence, family problems, social inequality, poverty and unemployment, problems in education and populations and environmental problems. Emphasis is given to placing these problems in a global context, analyzing them from the three main theoretical perspectives of sociology and strategies for societal action that may offer solutions.
