Herkimer County Community College women's soccer player Dana Gentile, Utica, was recently named 2007 Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year. Gentile was also named to the All-Conference team along with freshmen Danielle Filbeck, Amsterdam, NY, and Samantha Reddington, Poland, NY.
Several members of the Herkimer Generals men's soccer team were also named to the All-Conference team. They include seniors Mark Gunsch, Pleasant Valley, NY; Earl Chase, Galway, NY; Pete Givas, Liverpool, NY; and Sebastian Keczmerski, Hawa, Poland; and freshman Lee Martins, Bridgeport, CT.
The Herkimer Generals' men's and women's soccer teams each won the Region III quarterfinal games on Tuesday, October 23. The women's team won 4-1 over SUNY Delhi. Dana Gentile, a forward from Whitesboro, scored three of the goals for Herkimer, with Danielle Filbeck adding one goal. The men's team won against Broome Community College 5-0. Both teams will go on to play in the Region III final four tournament this weekend at Tompkins-Cortland Community College. The women will play Hudson Valley Community College at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, and the men will play Tompkins-Cortland Community College Saturday at 4:45 p.m. The championship games will be played Sunday at noon for the women and 3 p.m. for the men. Former HCCC Women's Soccer Player, Eileen Coyle, Named Region III Female Athlete of the Year
Former Herkimer County Community College women's soccer player Eileen Coyle, Oneonta, was named 2007 Region III Female Athlete of The Year by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Coyle was a first team NJCAA and NSCAA All-American both years at HCCC. A two-time Region III Player of the Year, Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and first team All-Conference, Coyle had 43 goals and 15 assists for 101 points in 19 games last season.
HCCC women's soccer coach Amy Brelinsky said "Eileen was a tremendous student-athlete at Herkimer. Her speed and skill were seldom matched by the opposing defense, and her abilities on the soccer field helped Herkimer stand out as a national contender each year." Coyle graduated from HCCC in May 2007. She transferred to SUNY Geneseo where she is a starting forward and one of the leading scorers for the Knights.

HCCC's Hulihan Named Region III Female Athlete of the Week
Herkimer County Community College women's soccer player Jennifer Hulihan was named Region III Female Athlete of the Week for the week of September 11 by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). A forward, Hulihan picked up five goals and five assists against Region III competitors SUNY Cobleskill, Hudson Valley Community College and Clinton Community College during that week.
Head coach Amy Brelinsky said "Jenn does a great job controlling the ball and the middle of the field. She always knows where her teammates are on the field and successfully gets the ball to them." The HCCC women's soccer team currently has an overall record of 9-1. Hulihan is a senior General Studies major from Rome, NY.

HCCC's Gentile Named National Co-Player of the Week
Herkimer County Community College women's soccer player Dana Gentile was named Division III women's soccer co-player of the week by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Gentile scored 23 points in two games last week. In a win over Jefferson Community College, she had five goals and three assists for 13 points. She also had four goals and two assists for 10 points in a win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Gentile currently leads the nation in points (54) and goals (23).
Head coach Amy Brelinsky said "Dana has been the driving force for our team's offense. Her skills and abilities also allow for her teammates to be successful around her."
In 2006, Gentile was named NJCAA first team All-American, NSCAA first team All-American, All-Region and All-Conference. She is a senior General Studies major from Utica and a 2006 graduate of Whitesboro High School.

HCCC Women Named to 2007 Coliseum Soccer Club Classic
All-Tournament Team
The 2007 Coliseum Soccer Club Classic was held September 2-3 at Herkimer County Community College's Wehrum Stadium. The HCCC women's team won on Saturday against Howard Community College 5-1. Scorers for Herkimer were: Dana Gentile with three goals, Danielle Filbeck with one goal and Alissa Carcone with one goal. Jennifer Hulihan had two assists and Bianca Barbato had one assist. Goalie Courtney Roberts had 12 saves.

On Sunday, the Generals beat Oxford College of Emory 2-1. Jennifer Hulihan had one goal and one assist, and Dana Gentile also scored a goal. Goalie Courtney Roberts had 10 saves.

2007 HCCC Athletic Awards
Eileen Coyle, a senior from Oneonta, was recently named Herkimer County Community College's Female Athlete of the Year. Coyle played two years on the Lady Generals soccer and lacrosse teams. In soccer, she was a two-time Region III Player of the Year, NJCAA and NSCAA All-American, Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and first team All-Conference. She scored 72 goals and had 22 assists for 166 points in 40 games during her two years playing women's soccer for Herkimer. She was also named Region III Player of the Week, Region III Female Athlete of the Week, and was the September 2006 selection for HCCC's Green and Gold Club. Coyle has also been named the Most Improved Player on the 2007 women's lacrosse team, and will be competing in the NJCAA national championship women's lacrosse tournament this weekend. Coyle is transferring to SUNY Geneseo where she will play women's lacrosse in the fall. "Eileen's speed and skill on the soccer field will be greatly missed. Her talent has helped our program receive national recognition," said Amy Brelinsky, women's soccer coach.

HCCC Soccer Players Named to NSCAA All-American Team
Three members of the Herkimer County Community College 2006 women's soccer team have been named All-Americans.
Senior Eileen Coyle, Oneonta, was named first team NJCAA and NSCAA All-American for the second consecutive year. A two-time Region III Player of the Year, Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year and first team All-Conference, Coyle scored 72 goals and had 22 assists for 166 points in 40 games during her two years playing women's soccer for Herkimer. During her senior season, she had 43 goals and 15 assists for 101 points in 19 games and was named Region III Player of the Week and Region III Female Athlete of the Week. Coyle was also the September 2006 selection for HCCC's Green and Gold Club.
Freshman Dana Gentile, Utica, was selected first team NJCAA and NSCAA All-American. The leading scorer in Division III, Gentile had 38 goals and 26 assists for 102 points in 18 games for the fall 2006 season. She was also named first team All-Conference Team, first team All-Region, and NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week (September).
Senior goalkeeper Janine Turcio, Arlington,was named a second team All-American. During her senior season, she was named Division III Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
"This year's team was one of the most talented groups of female athletes I have ever put on the field. Eileen and Janine have given our women's soccer program two outstanding years of success, and they will be greatly missed," said head coach Amy Brelinsky.
Herkimer's women's soccer team finished the fall 2007 season coming in 3rd place in Region III with an overall record of 16-2-1.

Turcio Named NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week
September 15, 2006--Herkimer County Community College's senior Janine Turcio has been selected National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
In a three-game stretch, Turcio gave up only one goal out of 34 shots against her. Her 33 saves were in wins over Cobleskill College (13-1), Hudson Valley Community College (8-0) and Clinton Community College (4-0). She currently has a 1.35 goals against average with places her 11th in the NJCAA Division III ranks.
Coach Amy Brelinsky said "Janine is a tremendous force for our team in goal. She is stepping up to the challenge to lead our team defensively this year." Turcio is a Liberal Arts and Sciences: Physical Education major at Herkimer and is a 2005 graduate of Arlington High School, Arlington, NY.
Gentile Named NJCAA Division III Co-Player of the Week
Herkimer County Community College freshman Dana Gentile has been named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week. A 5-4 forward from Utica, NY, Gentile led Herkimer to two wins last week with a total of six goals and three assists. In a 6-1 win over Broome Community College, she had three goals and one assist. Later in the week, she had three goals and two assists in a 10-0 shutout against Jamestown Community College.

Gentile is a 2006 graduate of Whitesboro High School and is a General Studies major at Herkimer.
