A truely hidden gem on the HCCC campus, the Herkimer women's soccer program has quietly compiled a glittering 260-84-15 record since 1985, including Regional Championships in 1985 and 1988 under Tom LaPuma. The Lady Generals, who advanced to the Region III finals last season under third year Head Coach Amy Brelinsky, compiled a 17-2 record and won their 4th consecutive Mountain Valley Conference title. Herkimer will enter the 2005 season with a 28-game conference unbeaten streak, dating back to October of 2000. The 2003 season marked the first year of divisionalized soccer on the women's side in the NJCAA. Herkimer will now compete in Division III with other non-scholarship schools, while the programs providing scholarships will align as Division I. Herkimer, and all other non-scholarship schools, had previously been competing for Regional and National championships with programs that offered financial assistance to athletes.
October 29, 2005
The top seeded Lady Generals played a challenging game against the Clinton CC Lady Cougars to see who would advance to the Region III Finals. The first half of the game saw most of it's action in the middle of the field as both teams played very aggressively to a 0-0 halftime score. The second half began the same way until Eileen Coyle took control of the ball and made what looked like a cross, but ended up going into the net. The second goal for Herkimer came just five minutes later as Krista Jester passed the ball up to Eileen Coyle, who then shot the ball from outside the eighteen-yard box and hit the corner of the goal. Eleven minutes later, Clinton's Liz Everett brought the Cougars within one goal with 9 minutes left in regulation. Herkimer then came back to score the game's final goal as Coyle threaded the ball through to Sarah Tiffany, who beat Clinton keeper Becky Abbott. Abbott ended the game with 13 saves bringing Clinton's final record to 15-3. Herkimer's Janine Turcio made 5 saves for the Lady Generals who move on to face MVCC for the Regional title.
October 25, 2005

September 2, 2005
The 2005 Lady Generals are looking forward to a long and successful season this fall. With only three returning starters from the 2004 season when the Generals posted a 17-2 record, the HCCC women’s team is busy incorporating several freshmen into the lineup.
Coach Amy Brelinsky is looking for a big year from returning defenders Krysten Vivyan (Ilion, NY) and Meghan Schongar (Troy, NY). Seniors Christa McGough (Remsen) and Krista Jester (Schenevus) will be stepping up and trying to control the middle of the field. On the scoring side, Ashley Philips (Johnstown, NY) is the returning leader with 10 goals and 7 assists in 2004.
Incoming freshmen to watch this season include forward Eileen Coyle (Oneonta, NY), midfielder Allyson Engelhart (Lowville, NY), defender Maddie Godman (Cherry Valley), and Janine Turcio (Arlington) who will be helping out the Generals both in the goal and on the field. Despite an extremely young team this season, Coach Brelinsky is optimistic that they will come together during pre-season and continue the success of the women’s soccer program at Herkimer. |
