HCCC Women's Cross Country Team Ranked 10th in the Nation

Herkimer County Community College’s women’s cross country team is ranked tenth in the nation by the NJCAA for the second consecutive week.

First-year head coach Julie DelMedico said “We work similar to a machine in that we’re only as strong as our weakest link. The women’s team is a hard working group with a strong middle.” The women are led by senior Amanda Davey, Amsterdam, and freshman Demetria Clare, West Winfield. In the middle is a strong freshman twosome Melissa Cleeton, Liverpool, and Erica Armstrong, Taberg. The other notable pair is senior Julie McAvoy, North Syracuse, and freshman Angela Haskins, Oneida. “I’m very impressed and proud of both the women’s and the men’s teams. We’ve had some setbacks this season, but we’ve fought hard to get to where we are, and I don’t see the fight dying anytime soon.”

Herkimer will participate in the Mountain Valley Conference Run on October 19 followed by Regionals the following weekend at SUNY Delhi.

Herkimer’s Sarah Lazarus won the girls race with a time of 21:05 followed by: Dorothy Sakyi (10th) 29:23.00; Ashley Saxe (12th) 33:17.00; Kaitryn Della Sala (13th) 33:18.00; and Tamme Wheeler (15th) 36:10.00.
