2005 Green and Gold Club Archives

The Green and Gold Club will honor an outstanding male and female athlete each month. In-season coaches nominate athletes based on their performance during that month, and final decisions are made by the director and assistant director of athletics.

2007 Green and Gold Club

December 2005

Jessika CoonesJessika Coones is a 5'8" freshman forward from Richfield Springs, NY majoring in General Studies. She led the women's basketball team to a 3-1 record during the month of December and averaged 12.6 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 5.3 steals per game. "J.J. has been a consistent performer this year leading the team in rebounding and is second in scoring and steals," said Coach John Campagna.

 

Lonnell JonesLonnell Jones has been a leader on the men's basketball team during the first semester of the season. A General Studies major from Brooklyn, he is one of two returning players for the Generals. Lonnell played high school basketball under Craig Fagen at Hilcrest High School. He also played under Robert Diaz for New York City Finest.

 

 

November 2005

Sarah LazarusCross country runner Sarah Lazarus, a freshman from Unadilla Valley, finished third in the 3.1 mile race at the NJCAA National Cross Country meet November 12 at Finger Lakes Community College.  Lazarus finished seven seconds behind second place.

Lazarus was named First Team All-Conference, First-Team All-Region, and First-Team NJCAA All-American.  She also was named NJCAA Division III Runner of the Week early in the season. Coach Sharon Howell said “Sarah is a very dedicated and focused athlete, and she had an outstanding first season running cross country.”

 

Miguel MartinezMidfielder Miguel Martinez, of White Plains, received the honor for his outstanding play on the men’s soccer team.  During the month of November, he scored 14 goals and had 13 assists, including game-winning goals in both the Region III and National Championship games.

Martinez’s awards this season include Mountain Valley Player of the Year, Region III Co-Player of the Year, Region III Final Four All-Tournament Team, National Final Four Most Valuable Player and NJCAA 2nd Team All-American. Coach Pepe Aragon said "Miguel is unbelievably skillful and strong.  I am glad he is a freshman -- he will be an asset to our team again next year.”

October 2005

Dwight BarnettDwight Barnett, of Jamaica, NY, scored five goals and had three assists in three Region III play-off games. "Dwight came up huge for us in the Regional play-offs.  He is a great leader both on and off of the field," said head coach Pepe Aragon.

 

 

Janine TurcioJanine Turcio, of Arlington, scored two goals and had two assists on the field in October.  In the net in a total of 12 games, she had nine goals scored on her with four of them against Division I Monroe Community College.  She was also named First Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference, and Defensive Player of the Region III tournament.

 

 

September 2005

Men’s soccer player Chris Charles, of Brooklyn, has been selected as the Green and Gold Club Male Athlete of the Month for September. With 23 goals and 12 assists for the month, Chris helped lead the team to a number one ranking in the NJCAA. Coach Pepe Aragon said “Chris is a leader both on and off the field.” He received the honor of Division III National Player of the Week. A graduate of George W. Wingate High School, Charles is a senior Business Administration major at HCCC.

 

 

The Green and Gold Club Female Athlete of the Month for September is women’s soccer player Eileen Coyle, of Oneonta. A freshman forward, Coyle had 19 goals and four assists in 12 games. “Eileen has been our go-to girl on the frontline. She uses her speed to fly by defenders and put the ball in the net,” said Coach Amy Brelinsky. Coyle is a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major.
