How to Prepare for Placement Testing
You cannot “pass” or “fail” the placement tests; however, to ensure that scores accurately represent your skill level, you may wish to review basic concepts in reading, arithmetic, and algebra before taking the placement tests, especially if you have been away from school for more than a year. Many students find that a GED or SAT review book (available at local bookstores and public libraries) is helpful in refreshing their basic skills. In addition, listed below are a few websites that other students have found helpful in brushing up on their skills.
- ACCUPLACER Sample Questions for Students Practice questions in Adobe® Acrobat® (.pdf) format. In order to view and print these, you must have the Adobe® Acrobat® Reader installed on your computer. The reader is free and can be downloaded from the Adobe® Web site.
- My Math Test.com is a great sample of what the ACCUPLACER math test looks and feels like. This test was created by the NASSAU Community College Math Department.
- Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois has put together a very comprehensive collection of study resources for all areas of the ACCUPLACER placement test.
- Google it! Search for ACCUPLACER Practice or ACCUPLACER Sample Tests. Many college sites offer links as free study material.
